I do make a bootable recovery disk and image with Paragon (for Windows) which is easy to understand, but I am confused on how to do this with CCC. Unfortunately, I do not understand how to get CCC to do this. It sounds like Carbon Copy Cloner is what I need - a bootable back-up image on an external hard drive with the operating system, applications and settings - in case I have a Mac hard drive failure that need replacement. I am really not interested in incremental back-ups as I do this manually. You are exactly right it is not either/or, a good backup strategy will include both an incremental backup and a clone backup along with an off site clone copy. You just need to pay attention so the backup drive have the correct partition map. The cloned backup drive will be an exact copy and it will be bootable. Look up the word clone in the dictionary -) If your drive is bootable so will the clone be. One of my concerns regarding CCC (trial version) is I saw no option to make my external hard drive bootable with a new OS.ĬCC will clone your drive.

So will the Mac OSX on the flash drive plus what Time Machine has saved work together - by first, installing the OSX from the flash drive and then restore all applications, settings and data from TimeMachine on the external hard drive.
